We were invited to a wonderful place to enjoy food and drink with lovely people we meet several times a year. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I am very grateful to Marco for this invitation because it serves as a warm-up for the following day of an event you are very excited about, allowing you to start talking with people in a more relaxed atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I met new people I hadn&#8217;t had the chance to speak with before, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/weblish.nl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Manuela van Prooijen<\/a> (from the Netherlands); I laughed a lot with Manuela. I really enjoyed talking with her and her husband, whom we are sure to see in Galicia soon. <a href=\"https:\/\/hydigitaldeveloper.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hacer Yilmaz<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/rubenmartins.pt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">R\u00faben Martins<\/a>, who had the patience to manage the speakers&#8217; There are also other communities and cities that are part of this highly unified core of people who share the values of collaboration and <em>open source<\/em> of the WordPress community. People who live in cities without meetups but come to share knowledge and help the ecosystem.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They have a <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-portugal.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shared website<\/a> and promote each other&#8217;s events, helping like little ants, which to me makes perfect sense. Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2sdMwCe\" rel=\"noopener\">Official Flickr Album<\/a>  <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:0px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer wp-container-content-d613cd94\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their event begins with the <em>contributor day<\/em>, which, in addition to having the usual tables for different work teams, establishes conversations between them on security, freelance work, SEO, and AI, among many other topics of interest to them.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It just makes perfect sense!<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is an annual meeting where all the people who can participate in the WordPress community from across the territory come together, and in some way, it helps them coordinate and help each other; truly, it is a beautiful example of how to function well. \ud83d\ude4f<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, they have talks that day which serve as a preview of what we will have the following day.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this case, from:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>&#8220;The Power of Open: What WordPress Offers Beyond Development&#8221;<\/em> with the great <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nilovelez.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nilo V\u00e9lez<\/a>, one of the most important figures in the international WP community.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>&#8220;WP Agentic Admin&#8221;<\/em> with the great <a href=\"https:\/\/marcelschmitz.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marcel Schmitz<\/a>, one of the most impressive developers I know. His talks leave you speechless, and he is also a very kind person who is approachable to everyone. I really enjoyed the conversations with Marcel.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>&#8220;My Agentic WordPress Workflow&#8221;<\/em> by <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.wordpress.org\/tsdds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tiago Santos<\/a> from the organizing team.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And a panel on the impact of AI on the WP Community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That day we ended with the social dinner for sponsors, volunteers, and the organization. A delicious dinner, as you can <a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/s\/aHBqjCUamM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">see in the photos<\/a>. A real treat, because in Portugal, the food is always good.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Day_3_The_Day_of_Talks\"><\/span>Day 3: The Day of Talks<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For me, in a way, the Portugal WC is the closest thing to a small-scale WCEU.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because they also have wonderful language skills\u2014they are able to speak to you in Spanish, English, or Portuguese with such total fluency and naturalness that it is a pleasure to be among them. A very cool backpack that I was very excited about.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I attended many talks in this edition. We started on the right foot with <strong>Jos\u00e9 Freitas<\/strong> giving a face to AI. A <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.tv\/2026\/05\/19\/da-um-rosto-a-ia-o-metodo-f-a-c-e-para-conteudo-de-autoridade-em-wordpress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">method (FACE)<\/a> to give authority to content in WP. Excellent advice and resources that are worth reviewing calmly and carefully to improve our web content.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our great friend <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GustavoGalati\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gustavo Galati<\/a>, who gave us an inspirational talk on <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.tv\/2026\/05\/19\/web-design-for-2026-learn-the-trends-and-how-to-apply-them-when-you-leave-the-room\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">design trends in 2026<\/a> and how to apply them. Very good advice and reflections. With Gustavo, besides the talk, it is wonderful to talk about his journey, experience, and life. Always a joy to have him around.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After my talk, I stayed to see our colleague <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.tv\/2026\/05\/19\/the-agency-reset-how-ai-is-forcing-the-best-business-model-upgrade-in-a-decade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Juanma Rodr\u00edguez<\/a> from Siteground talking about how AI is forcing changes in agency business models.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the way, as we can see, more than <strong>80% of the program<\/strong> had something related to AI. Fundamental aspects for improving the architecture, semantics, and optimization of our sites. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Slobodan is an author with extensive experience, a WordPress core contributor, and CTO at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.searchenginejournal.com\/author\/slobodan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Search Engine Journal<\/a>, one of the most important international SEO media outlets. So if I haven&#8217;t mentioned you, I am very sorry for the oversight: <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/virguwines.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Artur Azevedo<\/a> (how difficult it is to be a vegetarian in Galicia!), Paula Carmona, the Double AA ;-), <strong>Sandro Nunes<\/strong>, a Portuguese developer I was delighted to meet, <strong>Nizar Ashqar<\/strong> and his interesting project: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpstaq.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Staq<\/a>, the great <a href=\"https:\/\/web.cr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marco Berrocal<\/a>, whom it is a pleasure to talk to (and hear his stories) when he crosses the pond from Costa Rica. <a href=\"https:\/\/mamaduka.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">George Mamadashvili<\/a>, <strong>Gemny Andreina<\/strong>, among many other people whose names my memory does not allow me to include in this review.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Crossing borders is always a wonderful learning experience. It allows us to stop being self-centered and realize that in other latitudes and other languages, there are wonderful people doing incredible things. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We can learn from them to be better, to continue supporting them every time they do something, just as they do with us. To generate bonds that go far beyond WordPress; it&#8217;s about people connecting with people (PHP = <em>People Helping People<\/em>, as <a href=\"https:\/\/maeda.pm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">John Maeda<\/a> says). <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the care they put into organizing their events is noticeable from the moment you arrive.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I hope our local groups in <strong>Galicia<\/strong> and the rest of <strong>Spain<\/strong> learn a lot from this great Portuguese community and that we can recreate their excellent initiatives; two very simple ones come to mind: <\/p>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Improving our WordCamp programs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improving communication and support between cake<\/em>) which are irresistible.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thanks to my wonderful travel companions who allow me to laugh and recharge my energy to continue with our remote but connected lives.
